Introduction
MSc (Master of Science) in Strategic Business
Information Technology is a two stage program.
Stage 1: The first stage is
the Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Business
IT (PgD) awarded by NCC Education. This stage
consists of four modules that are held online
at the ArabianCampus.com. These modules provide
students with relevant management skills and an
understanding of the strategic issues associated
with businesses operating in an IT environment.
On completion of Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic
Business Information Technology, students are
enrolled directly with the University of Portsmouth
for the MSc program.
Stage 2: The second stage is
the Master of Science (MSc) in Strategic Busines
Information Technology. It consists of two modules:
Research Methodology and Dissertation, taught
on-line by the University of Portsmouth lecturers.
The MSc is awarded by the University of Portsmouth.
This program provides a thorough knowledge of
IT in business, strategy and management. There
is a strong IT theme running throughout the course
and an opportunity to build on existing technical
competencies, in networking, to an advanced level.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Business
IT is designed for candidates from an Information
Technology (IT) background. The course provides
a thorough knowledge about IT in business and
will prepare the individual with the necessary
academic skills and credits for the eventual continuation
to a Master of Science (MSc) degree.
The learning outcome of the course is to equip
the candidates with the necessary abilities to
analyse the complex and interacting issues of
a real world domain, to identify and be capable
of analysing alternative approaches to address
these issues, and to select the most appropriate
approach on the basis of experience and disciplined
thought.
The Underlying Philosophy of the Course
Candidates should not only be familiar with the
course modules and their content but also their
purpose and how the modules interrelate. In particular,
it is important to emphasise the philosophy underpinning
the overall course design i.e.:
- To address issues rather than technological
detail.
- To emphasise the relationship of Information
System (IS) ot the broader organisational context
and the world at large.
- To encourage and develop the critical abilities
of candidates and to equip them for positions
requiring strategic thinking and a significant
degree of responsibility for medium to long
term planning.
